17- year- old Ana Maria Tei’s life has always been perfect: loving parents, good grades, and a future so bright it outshone the sun. But now words like “separation” and “divorce” are sending her world plummeting to hell. Determined to keep her family intact, Ana plans a family-bonding trip from Vienna to Tuscany. Except fate has other plans. Ana’s parents and siblings are killed in a car accident on their way to pick Ana up from school.

Enter Grim, aka Ernest. He promises to relinquish the four souls if Ana agrees to trade her soul for theirs and serve a lifetime as his novice. In order for Ana to graduate from her Reaper’s Novice station to a Soul Collector graduate, Grim puts her to test. To her horror, she finds out becoming a Reaper’s Novice didn’t happen by chance. It was preordained, and she is forced to make a choice: save her family’s souls or come to terms with who she really is and complete the task set for her.

I pull Zig inside the Hotel Sacher Confectionery shop, famous for its traditional Sacher torte. Immediately, I’m blasted by the sight of dark chocolate cake and the scent of freshly brewed Viennese coffee, which reminds me of Sunday morning brunch at my house. My stomach grumbles mercilessly.

“Feed that beast in there before it devours us all.” Zig jabs a finger at my belly.

I laugh, and go back to ogling the cakes behind the glass display, picturing Anton smiling and gulping down the dark chocolate cake, apricot jam smeared on his lips. I dig out my savings, hand them to the lady behind the counter, and point at the smallest of the Sacher tortes. A few minutes later, Zig and I exit the shop and join the stream of pedestrians, strolling in and out of shops with bags in hand.

At the corner of Kärntner Strasse and Opernring, we stop to wait for the lights to change. A tram zips by. My gaze automatically drifts to the Vienna State Opera House. This is where magic happens.

When I was thirteen, our class visited the Opera House on an excursion. I remember walking through arched doorways and carpeted hallways, promising myself over and over that one day, this will be my dream.

Funny how life changes, twisting and turning dreams inside out, wringing them dry.

My stomach twists at the memory. I need to get out of here. Fast. I blink quickly, averting my gaze from Zig. Him seeing my face right now is the last thing I want.

“So what do you say?” he asks, oblivious to my current state. The light changes, and we join the crowd of people crossing the street. “Join me?” I give him a sidelong glance. “Do you trust me?” he asks when I don’t answer his questions.

“Would a deer trust a leopard to a cuddle?” I say, eyebrows raised.

He narrows his eyes. “Which one am I? The leopard or the deer?”

“Do you trust me?”

He doesn’t miss a beat. “Completely.”

I miss two beats. “Why? You hardly know me.”

“I just do. Come on, an hour of pure fun won’t kill you.”

I sigh. “Maybe later.” His shoulders sag. “Would you like to join me?”

His eyes light up, giving him a boyish look. “Never thought you’d ask.” He takes my hand. In the next step, we shift to the hospital.

“You’re reckless, you know that?” I say, placing a hand on the door of room 112. “Don’t you care that people notice when you disappear right before their eyes?”

“They’ll have something to talk about.”

I shake my head. “You could at least let me practise my shifting skills.”

“Next time.”

“Be good.”

“Aren’t I always?” He grins.

“Do you even know the meaning of that word?”

He winks. “You’d be surprised.”

I roll my eyes and walk inside the room

Meet Lindsay Avalon!
I am a wife, a programmer, and now an author. I have an adorable mini
Schnauzer and more books than I have room for. I love reading romance because
no matter what may be happening in my life, I can always count on my books to end
happily ever after. The day I met my husband was the day I truly began believing
in happily ever after. After hearing me complain a few too many times that I had
“nothing” to read despite the hundreds of paperbacks scattered around the house,
my husband began suggesting I write my own stories. When I finally took his advice
I discovered that although I enjoy my day job as a software engineer, my true calling
is to be an author.
My sister drilled into me an appreciation for fantasy and mythology, something
I try to bring to my books. My debut novel, Breaking the Nexus started as a book
written for NaNoWriMo and has grown to so much more. It was the conduit that
introduced me to a fantastic group of independent authors who have changed my
life in unimaginable ways.
When I’m not writing, I’ve found a passion for blogging and interviewing fellow
authors. I also love reading, baking, crochet, sewing sock monkeys, playing video
games, and all sorts of random crafts. I have an incurable love of rubber duckies and
stuffed animals, and I believe nobody should have to grow up if they don’t want.

Blurb:
A warrior trying to save humans. A detective searching for a killer. And a powerful
romance neither expected.
Throughout history, myths and legends of extraordinary creatures have been told
and retold. Fantastic tales of demons and banshees, gryphons and dragons, and
of course, magic. Stories that every child grows to learn are nothing more than
fantasy…or are they?
Beyond the world you see lies a hidden realm, the Mythrian Realm, inhabited by
all of the creatures you’ve been told are mere fiction. Only one thing lies between
humans and the truth: the Nexus. A magical barrier erected millennia ago to
separate the two realms, it has stood the test of time. Until now.
For Mythrian Sha Phoenix, magic is nothing new. But when she stumbles upon a
portal on the verge of collapse, her fate will forever change. Pulled through the
portal into the Human Realm, she lands in the middle of Detective Connor Flynn’s
brutal murder scene. Soon it is obvious someone is using blood magic to try to bring
down the Nexus. Together, Connor and Sha must work to unravel the secrets before
the barrier falls and the realms collide.
The Nexus is breaking and all hell is about to unleash…literally.

Timeless by Amy Richie Blog tour

Blurb:
After the asteroid, Jewell, cripples the earth, vampires come to the aid of the survivors.
Some only want to help, others merely want to protect their way of life, and some simply
have to be stopped. Eva was created for one purpose … to kill notorious vampire Dominick
Letrell. Neleh has devised a plan that cannot fail; travel back in time to when Dominick was
his weakest and attack him there. Along with the help of David, the most intelligent vampire
alive, the plan is set in motion. Unfortunately, everything goes wrong and Eva is trapped
in the past with no memory of why or how she got there. What happens when all the rules
change? Timeless is a story of betrayals, secrets, and a love that will change everything .
Excerpt #1
“Don’t you miss your family?”
I thought about his words carefully. No, I didn’t miss them; I was really starting to
wonder if I ever had a family at all. “I don’t remember my family. Right now, you are the only
person I know.” I shrugged.
“And that doesn’t scare you?”
My eyes narrowed with confusion. I rolled over on to my stomach so I could see his face.
“Scare me? You don’t scare me.”
“I’m not trying to.” He chuckled lightly.
“Then what do you mean?”
“I mean,” he widened his eyes, “aren’t you afraid that you might be all alone now?”
“Oh.” I felt my shoulders deflate and my chin fell to rest on his ribs. “Well, I’ll … ” my
words faltered, “I’ll just … ”
He brought his hand up to stroke the back of my head. “I shouldn’t have said that,” he
said very softly.
“No, that’s fine.” I tried to sound indifferent. Realizing several things at once, I sat up
quickly. He didn’t want me here. I was burdening him and he was letting me know as kindly as
he could. I couldn’t let myself think he cared for me. He was being nice, that’s all. I would be on
my own when he got me to the Colony. I had to keep things in perspective.
Tears pricked my eyes when I realized that it was too late for me; I already loved him.
And he didn’t love me back, he just wanted to protect me.
Excerpt #2
The atmosphere around us changed drastically. My breathing came out in uneven gasps and I
was sure that he could hear my heart hammering in my chest. I reached my hand up slowly to
touch his face. This time he let me. My fingers traced his jaw line, his cheek, and finally his hard
lips, which were parted just slightly from his own haggard breathing.
Ever so painfully slow he brought his face closer to me. I closed my eyes and tilted my
chin in anticipation of his lips against mine. Seconds ticked by and nothing happened. I opened
my eyes in disappointment to find he was staring at me. He had moved further back in the saddle
to allow some distance between us.
“What’s wrong?” I breathed.
“I want to kiss you,” he growled.
“So?” I leaned forward eagerly, but his strong hands stopped me.
“I can’t kiss you, Eva.”
“Why not?” My face felt hot.
“It’s against my rules.”
“What rules?” I was confused.
“I can not let myself fall for someone,” he paused, trying to find the right words, but
finally he just finished, “like you.”
“What am I?” I felt my eyes sting with tears.
He groaned loudly and buried his face against my hair. He inhaled deeply and then
abruptly pulled my face up to meet his again.
His kiss was sudden and unexpected, but not unpleasant. As I responded to him, he
deepened the kiss and I soon found myself melted into his chest. I entwined my arms around his
neck to hold him to me. He made small noises with his mouth that sent a thrill of pleasure down
my spine.
After an amount of time that was too short he broke the kiss off, but his hands still
eagerly stroked my face and my hair and my neck. He kissed me again and again until I was
dizzy from the effect. I would have surely fallen off the saddle if Nickolas hadn’t been holding
onto me so tight.
“Oh, Eva,” he whispered roughly in my hair, “who are you?”

About the author (via Goodreads)
About this author
I wear many hats. Author, mother, cook, housekeeper, laundry do-er, sister, daughter. I enjoy writing, it allows me to
escape the realities of life: bills, day job, baths, supper, dieting, cleaning the litter box.
My writing is usually romantic in nature with a bit of humor and a bit of surprise. My books range from Vampires who
fall in and out of love so many times I had to make it a series to christian stories of finding out what is important in
life.
I have always loved writing. During my high school days I wrote one book. It was a vampire love story. It took me so
long to write it that I began to think of the characters as real people. I still do that today.
On a personal note: I have three wonderful children - Gavin, Arabelle, and Elijah, two not so wonderful cats, and two
rats. We all live in a small town in northern Ohio. There is more corn here than vampires or werewolves, at least that I
know of.

I thought the author of this book, hit the nail on the head, I loved this story and thought Dominick was the quintessential hero, even if he was supposed to be the bad guy, I loved Eva she dealt with whatever anyone threw at her with gusto, I would love to read more about these two and the new world that they are living in, The love/hate relationship between them had me engrossed from the start. I can't wait to read more from this amazing author, it was a great read and I absolutely loved the book.

Blurb:

Gabriel Slade runs Hollywood with his gorgeous blue eyes and egregious temper. No one
knows that underneath it all is a man with a frozen heart, cursed to become a beast at every
full moon. For seven days he has no choice but to roam the earth as a vicious animal, until he
meets a woman who can change it all.
Luna Grace has a hatred for everything Gabriel Slade stands for, but she doesn't even know
what he looks like. When a chance encounter reveals feelings Luna never knew she harboured,
it stands to reason that she would run.
Can Luna overcome her hatred and break the curse? Or will Gabriel's temper keep her from
realizing her true feelings, dooming him to remain the beast forever?
Excerpt One:

"This is nice."
"Yes, it is," he agreed and felt a little vain.
She unwound the red scarf from her neck. The gray cardigan almost fell from one
shoulder where he saw the red straps of a bra and a camisole. A soft scar marred the perfect
skin of her collar bone. Without thinking, he crossed to her and traced the scar with a finger. He
looked into her eyes. She'd stopped breathing. Gabe traced his finger down to the top button of
her cardigan and fondled it until the button popped free. It was nothing for him to be so brazen,
but tonight, with her, something about it felt dirty. But he continued. God in heaven, the camisole
underneath was the same bright red. When he looked up again her eyes almost glowed.
"What happened?"
"Oh, the scar? Um," she stuttered. He couldn't help but smirk. "My dad…"
His head snapped up, furious. Her father had done this to her?
"No!" she said in a rush. "We were practicing. It was my fault. I wasn't paying attention. I
can't remember… I think I was upset about a boy at school or something. I didn't get my sword
up in time. It was an accident."
Gabe nodded as he ground his back teeth together. Finally, the last button was free. He
pushed the cardigan from her shoulders, brushing her arms with his fingers as he did. Her skin
reacted to his touch and she shivered.
"Do you think it would be okay if…" She motioned to the bathroom.
He shrugged when he wanted to laugh. "Why not? It's just a toilet." The red popped
against her olive skin and all Gabe wanted to do was see more of her. When was the last time
he'd lost control of his lust?
She took her drink with her and closed the door. Finally the moment of truth. Gabe
slipped out of his suit jacket and unbuttoned his shirt. He rolled the sleeves up out of comfort
and habit and tossed back his drink. The glass he set on the dresser, and walked out onto the
balcony for some fresh air, hoping it would calm him down.
Hurry up, little one.
Excerpt Two:

"No, Michael. We've been over this."
"Maybe you can show me how it's done then. You're the all-knowing."
Gabe seethed, though he knew his friend was trying to help him out. "Fine. Luna!"
"What?"
He turned when she snapped at him. The tension in the room grew again, but this time
the stunt people were the ones panicking. How dare she speak to him that way? What made her
think she could get away with that? Gabe smiled inwardly. She could get away with anything.
Outwardly, Gabe let his exasperation with her free. "Come demonstrate with me. You
know these steps better than I."
She rolled her eyes, those shockingly green eyes, and moved to him around the people
that stood on their marks. Luna took the sword handed to her by the woman opposite Michael
and glared up at him.
"From the top!" he shouted and waited for the director to call action.
When the call was made, Gabe stepped against Luna, circling her as the others fought
around them. The ring of steel called to memory a day long past and he pushed the thought
away.
"Words fail where betrayal cuts deep, my love," he uttered the lines that belonged to
Michael. "Spurned from one side of the world to the other, my heart bleeds to realize what we
had was all a lie."
"Pretty words for a man, don't you think?" Luna surprised him by breathing the words
back. There was a force behind them he didn't care for, a spark in her eye that caught flame
and burned with some unknown hatred.
"Pretty? Hardly. Rhyme and verse, perhaps. The kind that comes from a broken heart
and dashed hopes."
"Your heart lives only for the sea, your hopes only dashed by rough waters."
She struck then, a blow he deflected with his own blade. He caught both wrists in both
his hands; she was tiny, so easily broken.
"My heart beats only for you," he breathed. Gabe looked down into her widening eyes as
she saw the truth in the words he'd changed to fit his liking.
Excerpt 3:

"You call this a party? I call it debauchery. That girl there," she pointed to a woman in a
pink cardigan and neon fuck-me heels, "she's on her fourth man of the night. I'm convinced
she's trying to sleep with everyone here."
"Why are you here?" That was the real question, wasn't it? If she hated it so much, why
was she really here?
"I came with my roommate who thinks she's going to get lucky - she usually does - and
my friend who is off chatting up a girl he won't call because he's in love with someone else."
"And she's not into him. Is that it?" There was something about the way she said that.
Her tone held frustration, annoyance.
"That's exactly it. He may get himself into the outer courts though."
Gabe laughed a deep, resonating, gleeful sound. "Outer courts? Is that what they call
them?"
"That's what I call them. Beautiful set up though."
He caught himself just before he said thank you. Time to move a bit. He stood, brushed
off his trousers, and offered her a hand. "Come," he said. "Let's go into the outer courts."
Strange words that hadn't been uttered in so long, they tasted bitter and cold.

Welcome to The Writing World and our way of bringing awareness to such an important day. For those who don't know today is National Self Injury Awareness Day.
What is Self Injury (Self Harm)?
Self harm is any deliberate, non-suicidal behavior that inflicts physical injury to a persons body. It's essentially a way to cope that enables one to deal with intense emotional distress and creates a calming sensation. It can also be used as a way to "awaken" a person who feels numb or dissociated with the world around them. Self harm has an immediate effect which creates an instant relief but it's only temporary. Any underlying emotions still remain. Over time, self injury can become a persons automatic response to ordinary strains of life and the severity of self harm can increase. Self injury can affect everyone from all types of lifestyles. The age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or personal strength doesn't matter. There are certain forms of self injury that are talked about more than others but if one has found a unique way to hurt themselves, it's still self injury. When one self harms, there's not a severity level or scale. Any type of self harm is "bad" enough for a person to get help. Every person who suffers from self harm deserves help. Some people often feel they don't deserve help and it can feel scary. It is essential to get immediate medical attention if a self inflicted wound seems serious. Please be aware that self injury is normally a non-suicidal behavior and is NOT a way for a person to get attention. It's an emotional condition that deserves attention. Emotional distress and stress can lead to self injury and can eventually lead into suicide if not treated professionally.
Ways to Get Help

If you self harm and are thinking of seeking help it can be really hard at first. One moment it may seem like it's easy to talk about at one moment and much harder the next. The first step you can take is to talk to someone you trust. This can be a close friend, family member, teacher, or counselor.  Remember when talking to this trusted person, it may upset them to hear that you self harm. They aren't judging you. It may upset them because they care for you and it hurts to know that you've turned to self harm for your emotional support. Give your trusted person time to "digest" what you are telling them. Then the both of you can create a plan for recovery. As an example, where to go for medical attention before a more serious problem occurs.
My Child Self Injures....What Next?
The first discovery of your child using self harm as their coping mechanism can be hard. You may feel a mixture of shock, anger, guilt, worry, and this can upset you. Try to remember not to panic or over react. Your initial reaction will have a great impact on your child. It may affect how much they're willing to tell you or even stop them from opening up to you. Each situation is different. The way you react can depend on several factors, which include your child's age, reason behind their self harm, and the way you found out. (Example: They came to you or you discovered their self injury by accident.)
You may want to consider educating your self as much as you can on the subject to get a better understanding. Remember not to show disgust or anger, which can increase your child's emotional distress. From the start of you finding out, remember that you are NOT to blame for your child self harming.
Be sure you make it clear to your child that you are there to support him/her in any way. Acknowledge that self injury is a secretive behavior and the fact that you know about it can be overwhelming. Your child may need time to get used to the idea that you know before talking to anyone else.
Remember to focus on the underlying problem and not the self harm. Self harm takes time to give up. Be prepared for many months of recovery and don't ask them to stop. Do not prevent them from self injury by forcing them to stop and removing the tools they have come to rely on to cope. Before this can be done, a healthier coping mechanism must be found first.
Offer to take your child to a doctor and even suggest your support by showing you're willing to go with them. Do not force your child. If they decline the offer of your presence at the doctor, respect their privacy and confidentiality. Never ask your child to see their self harm injuries unless you think it may need medical attention. This will embarrass them and cause them to become more secretive about their situation. Remember you want them to open up, not push you away!
Do not treat your child any different. They are still the same person you knew and loved before you found out about their disorder. Never treat your child any different around others. This too can embarrass them.  Encourage your child to seek healthier ways once a medical professional is involved and their openly talking about their self harm.
